Site compliance
For a site to be fully compliant with VaxShield, they need to ensure they meet the requirements of:
Vaccine fridge
ALL of the following features must be available AND enabled within the vaccine fridge
- Select a vaccine fridge of an appropriate size (or larger than currently necessary)
- Never overstock the fridge.
- Ensure that there is always good airflow through the entire fridge. Do not form "floors" or "walls" with excessive stock.
- Ensure that there is plenty of ventilation around the fridge, especially at the back.
- Ensure the fridge is maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions
- Ensure that the fridge is placed out of direct sunlight
- Ensure that the fridge is in a secure location and only accessible by authorised staff
The choice of the fridge is often based on available space and results in a fridge that is too small. It is consequently overstocked. Additionally, ensure that the power lead or power point is clearly marked to warn staff not to turn it off or unplug it.
Temperature logger
The following are the responsibility of the facility and must be complied:
- The temperature logger is located where vaccines are stored (i.e. not placed out of the way either too far at the back or front)
- A reliable internet connection is maintained
Staff
The following are the responsibility of the facility and must be complied:
- All staff are trained, including new staff and non-medical staff
- Staff are given the resources, including time, to ensure vaccines are safely stored
